  • Projecting an Extruded Map to sphere

    Hey all,

I’m stuck working on a stylized globe and need some suggestions. I have my sphere, and then I’ve imported a vector spline of a world map that I would like to extrude then wrap around the sphere. I’ve tried projecting the spline onto the sphere, but for some reason, the “sphere” option does nothing and the XY obviously doesn’t cut it.

I was able to manipulate the spline using to wrap deformer to fit the sphere correctly, however when I apply the extrusion, the extrusion applies to the world z-axis so only one face of the sphere extrudes correctly.

    anybody have any tips?

    Thanks a bunch!
    Ryan

You should apply the wrap deformer to the extrude nurbs rather than the spline. So the heirarchy would be:

    Null Object
    -extrude nurbs
    -wrap deformer

You’ll also want to set the extrude nurbs caps to “quadrangles” instead of ngons and check the “regular grid” box. Adjust the grid subdivision to make sure you have enough geometry to provide for smooth deformation.
