Movies/Videos not loading in C4d
Hey boys and girls….
So for the last 2 weeks i’ve been encountering this annoying problem that i can’t seem to get rid of.
I can’t load movies into Cinema 4d as textures anymore.
What i usually do is I add a new material -> colour ->texture -> load the movie.Pretty typical way. And it has worked fine up until 2 weeks ago.
Now Cinema doesn’t allow me to load any kind of movies. Neither .mov nor .avi nor anything else.
They just show up as a black texture and when i try to render, a texture-error message pops up.I’ve already tried deleting the Library Preferences on my System (MacBook Pro, running on 10.5.8, if that’s of any importance) but it didn’t help.
I’m guessing it’s some kind of ………random error that’s caused by the System itself rather than C4d. I know yall can’t really come look at my mac, but maybe some of you have encountered the same problem and know how to solve it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you update to quicktime 7.6.6 recently? there were some similar problems to yours reported with that update.

yeah, i do in fact have 7.6.6!
I don’t remember exactly when i updated it, but i’m sure it was proably included in the list of a regular mac software update sometime.So uhm…what do I do now? And why does it affect Cinema in a way that I can’t load any kind of movies into it anymore? :/

don’t know the why of it but it bit a friend of mine this week also. i ran across a mention of it here (https://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=47&t=868211) but no solution or workaround. i think you’ll have to revert to the previous qtime version. google or check apple support for the method of reverting. it’s not all that straight forward unfortunately. i’m always a bit wary of the apple regular updates for things like quicktime especially in the midst of a work cycle. you might also see if maxxon has any help on this short of reverting to earlier qtime.

crap…..the guy from your link seems to have the same problem.
the only workaround seems to be a downgrading of quicktime, which -on a mac- is a real pain in the …
and hence: not really an option.Since Quicktime 7.6.6 works only Leopard, i can try an update to Snow Leopard (where Quicktime X is used) …and see if that fixes the problem.
Either way……it sucks. 🙁

I have QT 7.6.6 and QT X in Snow Leopard and import is working fine though I am running C4D 10.506

it seems it’s 11.5 C4D that is problematic but that’s interesting 10.5 is OK.
Grace, yep it is a pain in the… but you just need to get back to 7.6.4 i think. maybe take a look at this page with some info/hints on going to earlier qtime version:

yes, apparently this only affects c4d 11.5.
SO, i’ve gotten rid of the problem(!) by doing what one of the users from your link did!If anyone else encounters this problem, here’s the solution:
– install pacifist (https://www.charlessoft.com)
– download the qt version you want (in this case 7.6.4) from this site: (https://community.avid.com/forums/t/79244.aspx)
– open pacifist and drag the qt-package onto pacifist.
-select the main pkg of quicktime and click install. (if it tells you that it found any old qt elements, click on replace)-> VOILA, that’s it! 4 easy steps to revert to an earlier version of qt

Thanks for the above, this process for a QT downgrade works perfectly and also fixes the movie texture bug in C4D, for which I will be eternally grateful as this was proving to be a real headache, preventing me from being able to render my project (a fairly key requirement for my client)!
