  • Trouble with Axis Center in 11.5?

Hi, I’m running C4D 11.5 and having trouble with Structure->Axis Center.

It seems like I’ve gotten this to work previously, but now nothing.

I’m modeling close up, pushing points around etc, and it’s difficult when the axis (vertex) is far away from the points I’m working with. I’ll try selecting the points I’m working on, going to Axis Center, tried the different options. No luck.

I know I can place the axis manually, but that’s getting to be time consuming aswell.

Anyone else run into this problem?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jake Nelson-Dooley

You might try temporarily removing it from its current hierarchy, including any deformers, cloners, boole, symetry, etc… and doing your editing there. (Or copy it into a new project to work on it, something I do constantly.)
Axis center is a bit particular about when it will and wont work.
PS: Pressing the controll key while (after) orbiting the camera, is suppose to orbit around the cameras center, that might help as well.

What you probably want is the “Set Camera Pivot” command. I think the default shortcut is Tab, but I could be wrong about that (check in the Command Manager). What it does is set the camera pivot to the closest point to the cursor. Then you can reset it to selected object by running the command with the cursor over empty space.

In general, though, when you’re modeling you want to deal with the modeling axis rather than the object axis.
