No alpha channel ?
Posted by Fred Shaw on January 6, 2010 at 5:48 amSo I’ve checked all my settings and double checked. I have the box ticked for ALPHA channel, I have set output to millions+ but my movies have no alpa ??
When I output I go via :
Render > make preview >
is there an alternative way to render? am I possibly missing a render module ?
Appreciate any advise.
THANKS

January 6, 2010 at 9:52 amThere will only be alpha if there is nothing there. So if you are using a sky object, or background object the channel will be white.

I’ve tried with a variety of objects including a basic solid cube.

January 6, 2010 at 6:59 pmAre you opening it in Photoshop? If so you have to activate it manually.
When rendering there is an option to view the different Passes or Channels you should look there to see if there is an Alpha.

January 6, 2010 at 10:26 pmThanks again for your suggestions.
I am opening in After Effects and there is no additional information for an alpha channel.
cinema4D is not using the render settings I am setting up.
I think this maybe because I am making a preview via:
Render > Make Preview.
I click Quicktime and under options select millions+So, this is not actually a render output ??
not using render settings ??is there another way to output a render without a third party software ?
THANK-YOU

January 6, 2010 at 11:00 pmTry using RENDER TO PICTURE VIEWER
That should use your render settings.

January 6, 2010 at 11:12 pmwelcome in the minefield of the render setting’s of C4D 😉
one little unconvenience is that you can check the alpha button
for format’s that do not support this.
you check you think you are good but it won’t work.
please tel us more about your workflow and your output format.grt

January 7, 2010 at 4:30 amAh ha !
thanks so much for your support.so I Just need to keep testing.
I am starting with a basic cube just to get it right. has a picture map.
NO background or additional scene info.OUTPUT:
QUICKTIME
1920 x 1080
animation compression
lossless
millions+I did notice in render settings under:
SAVE / Depth /
there is only an 8bit / channel option
and ALPA channel is checked.NO 16 or 32 bit option ?? is this necessary for alpa ??
