  • How to get the basic matte look using Ambient Occlusion ??

Posted by Rajarshi Basu on December 28, 2009 at 7:52 pm

    Hi,

Coming from a Softimage background, all I had to do was click AO and get a nice matte look applied to my objects. But working in C4D, I can’t get that look. It is such a simple thing to do , can someone please point out what I am missing here ? Do I have to use lights or something ?

    Thanks

    Raj

First, add the AO effect in render settings and check “use sky environment”. Then create add a sky object from the Objects>Scene menu/palette (not Objects>Sky>Create Sky). That’s pretty much it.

    Hi Adam,

I had to create a Material, and then add Texture> Ambient Occlusion , to get the look. Yes the sky needed to be created too.

    Thanks,

    Raj

Using the AO effect will do the same thing but on a scene-wide basis. For the real clay render effect you’d also want to turn off material specularity.
