This is a follow-up to the ‘realistic grass’ problem in C4D arch version.

I’ve imported my grass mesh into c4d and attempted using “matrix extrude” to create a 3dgrass effect. Though it’s working, my polygon segments are too wide, and thus make the extrusions appear more like rashes than ‘marshes’.

How can i increase the polygon segments on the imported mesh?

You can select the object and run Function>Subdivide.

Instead of doing it that way I would try using material displacement — subpolygon displacement and a small scale noise (FBM noise works well).

Thanks. I’ve decided to take your material displacement option. Having done the sub-polygon bit, where do i effect the ‘noise’, and FBM?

The noise shader goes in the displacement channel and FBM is one of the noise types you can choose.

Found it, thanks. It does however take its time to render. I guess that’s because of the quality coming. Many thanks

It takes a long time to render because there’s a bazillion polygons. I should have thought of this earlier, but if you have the Hair module, that might give you a faster/better result.

I’ve looked extensively but my C4D architecture version 10 doesn’t appear to have the hair module. Could it be tucked away somewhere i’m not looking?
