September 30, 2009 at 6:31 pmThat’s the selection bar on the time slider. If you have keyframes on the selected object they’ll show up in the time slider. Dragging in the lower half of the time slider creates that selection box which allows you to manipulate selected keyframes in various ways (move, scale, copy, paste, etc.).
Right-clicking in the time slider brings up additional options. Some people prefer to use the “Advanced” mode, which makes it harder to move stuff accidentally.
