  • Occasional dark frames in animation

Posted by Douglas Skene on August 13, 2009 at 11:27 pm

We are rendering architectural walk-throughs and recently we have occasional dark frames in the animation. I have attached a couple of frames to show the effect.

Any ideas as to fix this ???

Are you using NET? GI? Settings?

We are using net render with Pcs and macs. GI is also used with the following settings:

    Thnaks for the help.

what mix of PC’s and Macs in the NET setup? GI and particles, among other things, can be different if different computer types are mixed (mostly due to different Floating Point units as I understand it)

I am not in the office now but we have 2 different types of HP machines and one macbookpro in this particular case. However I think that we have tried to re-render the individual dark frame on a single machine (a mac pro in that case) and it was still dark??

I am not the person who actually works on the models so I am not sure of all the details but when we re-render the single frame (as I said above) does the GI file (that is generated at the beginning of the rendering period) have to be re-generated to eliminate the problem (assuming that it is the variety of machine types that’s causing the problem). just an idea.

The animation of 300 frames has 12 dark frames in seemingly random positions.

It sounds like a prepass problem so you would have regenerate it in that case. Have you saved the prepass where it can be accessed by the NET machines? In any case, if it’s just 12 bad frames it might be possible to just redo those?

I thought that the prepass is done by the net machines?? Is this not how it should be?
If we want to regenerate the prepass – what should we do.
About re-rendering we have tried but the same frames are always dark.
