Okay, I got Video Materials to work in the Color or Luminance channels on my tiny macbook. Now, I’m using C4D 11 (same version) on a custom built quad core machine, and video materials aren’t working. When I load the same quicktime movie into the channel, i just get a black clip of the material, and under the “animation” tab it shows frames 0 to 0 at 30fps. It used to show frames 0-1450 or however many are in there. When i try to render, it gives me a “cannot render x.mov in Material (mat).” The file size is not an issue, and wasn’t before. This just started happening recently. Please help, this is very frustrating!

My guess is just a missing codec that the laptop had but the new one doesn’t. Not a standard QT codec or it would work so probably(maybe) it’s Divx/Xvid/3ivx etc.

Well, the custom built machine isn’t connected to the internet and probably never will be…is there a way i can check the codecs and get the ones i need without connecting to the internet?

not a Mac I take it. Open the video on the Mac laptop and do a command-I that brings up an info window, in there somewhere (middle-ish) is the codec. Whatever it is download it move it to the quad and install.

There might be a twist to the story though…just a few days ago these video planes worked. Somehow i got rid of the material and had to make it again, which is when they stopped working. I’ll try the codecs tomorrow and cross my fingers that they work, but all in all this has been a very confusing and frustrating experience.

Okay i figured it out! The 64bit Version of C4D11 has a lot of missing codecs. So i simply opened up the project in the 32bit version and it worked!
