Good morning(at least it is here anyway…),

I am a 3d Studio Max user who is moving into the world of Computer Animation. I’ve done basic animation before in max but the problem is that the software is not a good fit for me in the case of animating. It’s simply too difficult to do and edit simple tasks.

I’ve had Cinema 4d on my radar for awhile now and I basically am wondering what a great Book for someone who is not new to the concept of 3d, but to the program. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’ve looked at a few but I figure I would get a peer to peer answer.

    Thank you,

    Michael

I can recommend Cinema 4D Workshop by Arndt von Koenigsmarck. I haven’t yet read the R10 version of the Cinema 4D Handbook, but an earlier version that I have was a good introductory book.

I would not recommend the Cinema 4D workshop. I’m sure the book is great in it’s original language, which I’m guessing is German, but I found the translation to be very challenging to follow. But if you can follow it I think it would be excellent. Also the typeface it’s printed in is difficult to read.

I’m only half the thing I say I am, the other half are me.

Thank you both, I just went to amazon to read the reviews and they all seem to be saying the same thing which is “It’s awesome if you can force through the translation.” I’m wondering if I should get this and deal with it or if there lies another choice out there.

Well, I have the “Cinema 4D 10 Workshop” by Arndt von Koenigsmarck,
an excellent resource for beginners and more advanced users alike.

The accompanying CD contains all Tutorial-Files, and as a Bonus,
PhotoMatch LE, which permits you to easily insert 3D objects into photos.

I didn’t find much wrong with the translation…or the typeface…
3D is still a very complex subject, and to explain everything in an understandable way,
is quite a task, translating this into any other language might be even more challenging…

If you are bi-lingual, and have ever read some of the original work of
John Locke, Friedrich Nietzsche, Jean Paul Sartre, Bertram Russell… or any other…
and then the translation into any other language, you might get a surprise.

    Regards
    Nolan
