  • rendering speed problem.

Posted by Jens Tellmann on January 28, 2009 at 11:07 pm

I have a serious problem with a certain scene.
Right now, I am working on five different scenes of the same kind.
one has a serious rendering speed problem.

    see image:

all the other scenes render within a couple minutes – 15 minutes max. but this one takes about 60 minutes.

    This one took 6 Minutes

GI creation was disabled for all textures except for the wall and ground materials, for the red “hotel” sign and unfortunatelyfor the glass. But I have to add, that I turned it off just for testing, and the result was pretty much the same.

GI Portal is enabled for the Glass,
    GI mode is IC
GI depth is set to 2
(sorry, german Version here, i hope this is the right expression)

If anybody has any hints, what the problem might be, shoot!
    I’m out of ideas.

PS: an early rendering test of the first scene at final resolution 31,4 cm X 29,7 cm at 300dpi took almost 40 hours!

turn off GI Generate and GI Receive for all glass materials, the difference in image is usually not worth the time. Otherwise your scene doesn’t look tough (unless I’m not seeing something) and as long as your Min/Max Resolution/Stochastic Samples are set so you are not getting more resolution than you need…

    Thanks lot for replying!

Min/Max Resolution and Stochastic Samples are as low as possible.

Right now the final render (31,5cm X 29,7 cm at 300dpi) is running and I am at 13:10 hours and not even a quarter of the image is done.
I guess I have to figure out later, what the problem was.
Unfortunately I don’t have the time to take chances.
If I spend too much time on troubleshooting with no satisyfying result, im in hot water with my production deadline.

But thanks for your help anyway.

    Excellent forum, btw.
    Very helpful!
