    Hi Everyone,

    I have a scene where I want multiple simple objects to fall from the sky and realistically hit the floor and bounce around accordingly.

    The falling objects are simple cubes, cylinders, spheres, pyramids etc all with smooth filleted edges.

    I’m rendering with vray and gossy textures so it needs to be close to perfect.

    I’ve tried a few ways so far, with no real success – see below…

    1. I’ve tried using rigid body dynamics. This way held the shape completely rigid but I just couldn’t get a good interaction between the shapes i.e. cubes didn’t react realistically with the floor and other shapes would go through each other.

    2. I tired using cloth. This has the kind of realism i’m after but even with the stiffness 10000% and flexion 100% the shapes would deform on contact and the fillet edges would not remain smooth. Also there are multiple falling objects so would have to connect the objects and use self collision – again this had unfavourable effects.

    Does anyone know of a better solution, or maybe a rigid body setup that works really well for this kind of scene?

    The key requirments are: Fillet edges, good enough to hold up in vray rendering, realistic collisions, objects need to collide with each other as well as the floor.

    Any help much appreciated!

    Dynamics should work relatively well but settings have to be tweaked – gravity depending on scale – then the mass and rotational mass, frictions etc etc to get something you’re happy with. There are other solutions as well, the only one I can think of at the moment is Silver Bullet by Remotion haven’t used it but I’ve heard others say positive things, could be more as well. Here’s a dynamics test that may not be anywhere close to what you’re after but objects don’t pass through each other…

    Brilliant – thanks for the response. The file is very close to what I need. I’d never adjusted rotational mass before…guess thats where I was going wrong.
