In Cinema 4D I a ribbon (rectangle bent using Mograph’s spline wrap) flying around people in 3D space.

These people are Video that shot people in a greensceened environment. So essentially video footage with alpha channels projected onto a flat plane. The footage will be placed in C4D for referance, but the ribbon will be exported by it self and composited with the keyed out people in After Effects. Meaning, the preComp people in AE’s will be 3d layers and should assume the planes exact position by using external compositing and bringing the camera animation to AE.

Question I have is a workflow question. What’s the best way to get the ribbon to be behind and in front of the person at the same time. Should I export from C4D using a boole to cut the ribbon horizontally in two?

Hope you guys can picture what I am trying to accomplish. Any thoughts, tips, warnings? Videos like this on the internet you saw?

    Rotoscope it in AE.
Sandwich the keyed material and rotoscope the top layer.

Hey Chris.. If the people are not moving around alot in the video.. I would probably just go to photoshop and make a path of the figures in the movie and export to illustrator as a path (.ai extension) and drop that path in cinema 4d. Just extrude it and try to match frame it to the video you have and then apply a composite modifier and select matte object.
It would act as a matte..therefore giving you that result you are looking for…but as i said…it wont work if those people are moving around aot.
    hope this works.
