    G’day all,

I am in desperate need of some advice. I’m trying to bring in a Cinema 4D file into AE CS3, using lights as reference points from which I can place 2D objects. I’m using the method listed on this website: https://www.studiodaily.com/main/minisites/aftereffects/f/mtutorials/6890.html

Problem is that when I alt + drag the 2D element over the light to replace it I get the message: “error 26::335 layer does not have a source”. I can’t figure it out!!! the same 2D graphic will come up fine in other AE comps, so its not missing or anything…

    HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

    Kind Regards,
    CB.

I’ve not seen that tutorial, but use the same method myself for adding AE 3D layers.

It may be that be trying to drag your layer into the comp to replace the light, AE doesn’t want to switch on the 3D-ness automatically.

Have you tried leaving the lights in the composition, and using the expression pickwhip to control the AE 3D layer position?

Thanks Graham – didn’t know about the pick whip but it works great.

I have no idea why the other method wont work. Ahh well.

    Thanks again,
    CB

FYI, you don’t have to use lights for this anymore. Now you can assign an “External Compositing” tag to any object and it’s axis location/rotation will transfer to AE as long as you have the “3D data” box checked in the render>save options.
