  Anyone running Windows Vista ?

  I am building a new system and need to know how stable
  and/or advisable it is to use Windows Vista (Ultimate?)
  or should I just stick with XP PRO?

  Oh wow! This doesn’t look good. I am truely hoping you have the answer I seek here.

  My old 3.2ghz HT XP system is goinig to the retirement home after yet another failed monitor. Since it is out of warranty, I did a bit of research and read about how well Cinema 4D runs on AMD 64 bit with Windows 64 bit Ultimate. So I shelled out the money for the AMD 64 Bit Dual Core and Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit…. and guess what? Cinema 4D doesn’t run on it at ALL! 32 bit nor 64 bit.

  Much to my surprise, after installing it, entering my serials, and carefully closing the program, I find it cannot save something regarding the serials, and I have to enter them into the 64 bit version every single time. The 32 bit version took the serials just fine, but cannot process even a simple spline.

  In my system, it actually seems to have something to do with the NVidia driver, and I did some research to find that there are thousands of folks, mostly in gaming forums, having trouble with 3D video drivers and Windows Vista. At first, my search was just about the NVidia driver but I came across some people having trouble with their ATI drivers and vista.

  So, does anyone (you) have a solution? I can run After Effects just fine (so far), and my other graphics programs. It seems to vomit at 3D. I honestly don’t think it is Cinema 4D (except the 64 bit version not saving the serials). I think it has something to do with Vista and 3D Graphic rendering. However, since I’m using 4D… if anyone has the tweak, then I’d sure like to hear it.

  Things I’ve done:

  1) Ran a memory scan to ensure my memory is working OK.
  2) Ran a heat check to ensure my computer isn’t heating up.
  3) Made sure I have enough disk space (145GB of it free)
  4) Ensured I have the latest drivers
  5) Registered Cinema 4D into the NVidia driver (but it doesn’t keep the profile for some reason).

  System Configuration (good enough for what I do and can afford, so you Voodoo guys leave me alone 🙂 )

  HP Pavillion 9000z (customized)
  AMD Turion Dual Core 64Bit 2.2GHz
  Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit version
  SVGA+ graphics
  NVidia 6500 GO (I know, I know)
  2GB Ram (I know, I know)
  240GB HD

  I use this laptop machine for general design and assembly, then I have a desktop for rendering. The thing is, the desktop is an AMD Athalon 64Bit machine running Windows XP 32 bit, and 4D cranks away with no problems.

  Any help, advice, general research, or location of a witch doctor would be appreciated.
