    Hi,

I am trying to do a card opening intro for my video, in which the card opens and flip to a page which will transit into the video footage that will be edited in Final Cut.

I have a card bottom texture which I assign the texture with alpha turns on, so that portion will be transparent for my video to show through in final cut. However, after I rendered (quicktime animation codec, millions colors +) and import it into final cut. The alpha does not show, though the item properties recognise it as a straight alpha.

Have I missed out any important steps that I should be doing in order to get this right?

    Please advise guys.

    Thanks

    Ken

Should work straight or not, unless you have something behind the card that’s blocking the alpha.

It does not work, I do have a ground background behind the card bottom which I assign the alpha, but I cannot turn it off as I need it to be rendered as well. I though I can assign a alpha texture to the card it should just rendered that as an alpha map, apparently it does not work thay way. Any way to do this?

    Thanks

    Ken

Alpha only works (in the compositing sense) if there is nothing behind it. You are wanting a “put a hole through everything here” kind of thing. Don’t know if it exists. But…

-Render the ground/card as a seperate passes or,
-instead of alpha use a matte color in the same spot, composite using chroma or,
-place alpha on the ground behind the alpha on the card or,
-bring the footage into C4D and composite there…

    probably more ways…

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the info, I tried to render it with a separate pass using multi-pass, put it in the image mask in final cut filer does not seems to work.

Seems like I have to use the chorma key option and use the card bottom as a matte object and key out in final cut
