I’m using a bhodinut material that was gleaned from another project for a new project that I’m working on… And I also want to add a bump map to it – But there’s no Bump checkbox for it. How do I add one? Can I add one? If I can’t how do I add a bump material to an object?

    thanks,

Make a 2nd material with your bump map and 50% grey in the alpha channel and layer it over your Bhodinut/SLA shader.

    Here’s a recent thread on C4D Cafe:

make a second material with bump only (the other channels off) add it to your object making sure it’s texture tag is to the right of the texture tag of your other (bhodinut) material (it will be if you add it second, if not, move it later) and check off ‘Mix Textures’ in the Texture Tag of the bump material.

I’ve tried both of these suggestions, but my material either shows one or the other… I can’t seem to get the bump of one material with the shader of another….. C4D I’m on 9.1

are you rendering or only looking in the interface? If you *are* rendering you probably have not checked off mix textures on the second material tag or something simple, it’s easy to do. Check the manual Mixing Textures in the Material Manager chapter.

<< areyou rendering or only looking in the interface?>>

    I’m rendering it out…

I beleieve that I have. I’ve checked ‘Mix Textures’ in the Tag of bump map and only my shader color shows up; when I check ‘Mix Textures’ of both the shader and the bump, I see neither – only the default grey shows up with no bump…
Oddly enough, after playing with it. I can’t see a bump at all. I took off the shader and only used the bum, but also Checked my color. I can see the color and bump in my Materials window, but neither shows up when I drag it to my object…

    thanks,

    maybe a picture… (I don’t have 9.1 so I can’t post a file that would be useful to you)

    Brian,

Thank you… I’m at work, but I’ll check these settings (looks like my 9.1 parameters) and I’ll see if I’m missing something….

    thanks,

Brian suggestion of making a second material with a bump only and no color (or any other attereibute) normally works, but NOT for the Bhodinut (SLA) shaders. Try it with the Danel Glossy shader for instance. Make your second material with bump only and add it to the right of your Danel material (make sure “mix textures is UNCHECKED). Just a black material, right? NOW go back to your bump material and check “Alpha”. Select “color” from the pulldown menu and set it to 50% grey. Rerender. Voila! There’s your bump. Hope this helps!

I will try this… Brian was nice enough to attach a screen grab of his settings and they seemed to match mine with the exception of the Bhodinut shader.. I’ll give this a shot and let everyone know. What’s the best shader for simulating high-gloss metal?

    thanks!
