    My biz partner and I are starting motion GFX/animation studio. I am working cinematographer/TVeditor, he is 3DS Max graduate but dropped entire discipline to chase rock dream eight years ago. We are coming together later in life as goals have changed. After extensive research we are settling on a C4D-AFX workflow with the following assumptions:
    * C4D will animate and AFX will composite
    * C4D works great with AFX
    * C4D most intuitive with outstanding support
    * C4D limitations include text use and longer renders
    * AFX limitations are animation
    So here

    Umm, one is a 3D app the other a compositing program with some 3D abilities. Not sure why you cannot make out the differences. They are two completely different tools. This could turn into an endless discussion, so I suggest you download the demos/ trial versions of both apps to get a grasp of what each of them can do.

    It’s the “endless discussion” part that has me confused. But I see your point.

    Thanks so much for the reply, Mylenium, you kill it. Your tutorials have helped me a ton during this process.

    Err, i’m going to go now. I’ll be back with some better questions in a few months.

    Didn’t mean to put you off, it just strikes me as odd that someone might come up with such questions. While both apps certainly share some principles, they are different enough at first sight to file them in different categories.

    Since your friend had some experience in 3ds Max, I would not discount it as an option, particularly if its based upon interfacing with ae. There is a powerful aftermarket plug-in that allows camera/scene data to be transfered, in both directions. I’d give Max another look while doing your research.
