  How do I put a see through hole in a solid object (a primitive polygon)

  I’m new to C4D and wondered how I put a hole in a solid object. I’d also like to know how to put a hole in the edge of an object (boolean i think, but would appreicate a step by step run through) I’m doing a basic model of some office furniture (I know, it’s hardly hollywood!!!)
