I am modelling a photo realistic piece of packaging. It’s a leather tube that holds a whisky bottle. It has a rectangular label with rounded corners stuck on to it’s front that wraps round the tube. I’m trying to model the label so it has some thickness and wrap it round the tube. I’ve tried spline projection using a path created in illustrator but it seems to go all weird and distorted, and I’m now trying deformers. What’s the best way to handle this kind of thing?

    Thanks in advance.

I would select the bottle polys where the label should go, run the split command, then select all the polys in the resulting object and do a very small “move normal” (just enough to avoid coplanar polys). Then do an extrude with the caps option selected.
