In version 9, is there an easy way to decelerate an objects motion so that it stops with a smooth motion at the end keyframe without slamming to a stop?

open the FCurve manager and apply an ease out to the keyframe where it stops (or tweek the curve by hand to get exactly the rate you want)

in timeline, right click on your object, select:new track/time
select the position lines (or ALT select just one – X,Y or Z), and drag your new time track into the attributes.
in FCurves open the TIME TRACK and you’ll see a linear time progression, adjust interpolations. Add keyframes if you want the time to “bounce” etc.
