  • Which video editor to go with AE?

Hi. I’ve used AE for some time now and i really love it. But nevermind. The actual reason i made this thread is to find out what program you guys would recommend that I use for the actual video editing phase? I’ve tried sone vegas and premiere pro, and I think that Vegas was easiest to use, but that is now the important thing. Just want to know which one is best to invest in and learn? It doesn’t have to be one of the two mentioned. 😀

You may get lots of different opinions… 🙂

I used Ulead’s (now Corel) VideoStudio for a very long time with AE simply because of price and ease of use. I had spent a huge chunk of my “startup” budget on AE, so I couldn’t afford Premiere.

However, after several frustrations with VS, I went ahead and bought Premiere Pro and forced myself to switch, even though the learning curve was a bit steap (funny how it ‘feels’ that Premiere is harder to use than AE).

And honestly, I do MOST simple editing jobs in AE and only move to Premiere when I have to.

the answer to your question is a question…

Which editor do YOU feel the most comfortable with, and has the feature set that YOU need?

I mean, if it were me, I’d want to use the editor that is going to get me the most work, and in my case, that’s Final Cut Pro. Everyone I deal with uses it, every place that I’ve tried to get a job with requires it… it’s my bread and butter app, other than After Effects.

On the other hand, lots of people use Premier Pro or Avid as well and some are still for some reason using Media 100, and it wouldn’t hurt for me to know them. Unfortunately, I don’t have that kind of budget, so I fudge my way through using other editors if I’m put in a scenario where I have to use them.

I’m really more of a motion graphics guy, so the editor I use isn’t really due to any preference, other than the preference to maximize my income.

    Thanks for the help guys.

So if I cannot afford buying a mac Premiere Pro is your recommendation?

I don’t know if Premier would be the best editor for you, so I can’t say that. I used Vegas for a couple of things, and it seems like a decent editor as well.

I think you should try out a few demos of editors for Windows, and see which one you like.

One of the best things about Premier is the integration with After Effects, and the fact that it comes as part of the Production Premium suite along with After Effects and the rest of the tools necessary to produce things in After Effects (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.)
