  • Copyright on using a quote from a book

I’m working on an indie Documentary at the moment and am looking at clearing the rights for everything in the film.

At the begining of the film we use a quote from a book on the same subject as the film. I was wondering if i have to get a book quote cleared for rights, and if so what would be the process? (email the publisher/author?)

Any idea what rights to a quote would cost?

    Thanks a lot!

Probably nothing. Contact the publisher or Google the author directly. Most of the time (every time I have asked) you will receive permission.
