    Hi,

For some reasons I need to bring some quicktime files in my Mac G5 to my PC AE CS3 for the final finish. However, when I tried to open the project file in my PC AE CS3, there is a message “After Effects warning: a compressor used in an output module template could not be found. The animation compressor will be used instead.”

When I click ok button I do open my project file, but all the movie file become white, that means nothing. When I close AE and go back to windows, I tried to use quicktime to look at my footages and the quicktime send me to the apple codec download link.

The weird thing is, I just update my quicktime pro for the latest version and I also install all the codec in apple quicktime link (Divx, xvid…)

Could anyone please tell me what’s going on? I need to submit this project two days later and now it seems I am totally screwed…

    please help!!!

    thanks

What codec are your video files in? If they are in ProRes then you’ll have to export them as something else. ProRes is only readable on systems with FCS 2 installed.

    Hi,

Open the quicktime file on the Mac and hit Command-I to display the information window. This will tell you what codec the file is compressed with. You will have to either get the windows version of the codec and install it on the windows system or else use another codec that you do have on both systems. (Animation, for example.)

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

My footages was compressed by DVCPRO HD 720p60. Integer (Big Endian). I am not sure if my PC computer has the same codec, but if not, where can I get the codec?

    thanks

I’m pretty sure that those camera specific codecs are only on FCP installed systems as well. The easiest thing to do would be to simply re-export your project using the Animation codec. This is a lossless codec so the quality will be the same.
The easiest way to do this is to duplicate your edited sequence in FCP, and in Sequence Settings change the compressor to Animation. Leave everything else the same. If you want to view this sequence in realtime, you’ll need to render it first. Or you can just go ahead and export it, as Quicktime Movie > Current Settings.
This file should work fine on the pc in AE.

    Hi,

You may want to re-render the files to a different codec such as Animation (Huge files) or Motion Jpeg (Not so huge, but not so good either) These should be readable on your Windows system.

Obviously if this involves a lot of footage, this could be a problem.

    Here’s a couple of threads I have found on the subject;

    Hi,

Thank you guys. I also did some research in Panasonic website and other place. I think right now the best way to do is covert my footage again. I hope they (my boss) will not notice that…..

thanks again. Now I can finish my project on time….I think

    Hi,

Just another question. what is the best bet for me when I done my project and export file so that I can go back to Final Cut in my Mac?

From the compression formate I can see in my AE CS3 PC, there are not so many I can really understand. I mean, I don’t see any quicktime formate I can export my animation. The compression formate also doesn’t have animation, only something like microsoft DV, microsoft H263…….

is there anything I should do so that I can use quicktime compression or at least animation compression for the file output?

    thank you so much

You don’t export your project from After Effects, you render it. Go to Composition > Make Movie. You can leave the first group, Render Settings, set to Best Settings. If the second group is set to Lossless, then you can go ahead and hit the Render button.
If it is not set to Lossless, click on it and then click on Format Options. From here you can choose the Animation codec. Hit the OK button, then hit the Render button.
This file will work fine in FCP, and if you want, you can change the codec back to DVCPro 50 in FCP Sequence Settings for final output. If your project is going to DVD, that won’t be necessary. You can bring the file with the Animation codec directly into Compressor.

    Hi,

I do exactly what you told me to. I rendered as animation and I open the render file after render it. Everything seems fine. I can see what I rendered out in the quicktime in my PC computer. However, when I bring this file back to Mac, I can not see anything. It is just white screen…… I tried to convert it but compressor won’t let me

Did I do anything wrong? Do you have any advice?

    thanks

These posts have gotten a bit out of oreder, so that anyone who read the last post would think the problem was solved and the topic closed.

The problem still remains of cross compatibility between Quicktime files on a Mac and a P.C.

I wasn’t aware there was such an issue, as long as both platforms used the same Quicktime codecs – in this case Animation.

I have exhausted all of my possible solutions for the poster, so if there are any experts out there with a solution to this problem, please help.
