BCC Deinterlace on Sony Vegas 10
Hi,
I’m trying to use BCC deinterlace on some DV footage to see if I can get better results than Vegas’ default deinterlace but I’m not able to make it work no matter what.
I’ve set deinterlace method to none in the project properties, I’ve changed the clip field order, also in the filter, but in the preview I always see it interlaced.Did I missed something obvious?
PS: The footage is DV PAL widescreen.

First, you DO NOT want to change the clip’s field order. This tells Vegas the true nature of the clip. Never set this to anything but the truth so that Vegas will know how to process it properly. Vegas needs to know that the clip is really interlaced. If you lie and tell Vegas the clip is progressive, strange things will happen.
I can’t reproduce this problem. I created a DV project, dropped some DV footage on the timeline, found a frame that showed some nice interlace combing, dropped BCC Deinterlace on the clip, and the combing disappeared. No special project settings or clips settings or anything. It just worked. You may be over-thinking this. Just start with a new DV project and do as I did and see what you get.
Also set your preview to Best (Full) and move the cursor to a new frame after you add BCC Deinterlace. I’ve seen Vegas cache frames and drive me crazy because I wasn’t seeing the FX. Changing the preview setting to full causes Vegas to re-evaluate the frame.

Ok, I’ve figured out what’s wrong. In order for the BCC Deinterlace to work the project’s resolution and aspect ratio must match the clip. If not, the deinterlace won’t work at all.
The project I’m doing has other clips with different resolutions/aspect ratios so I’m going to create a new project just for the DV clips, deinterlace them, render, and add the rendered file to the main project.Thanks for helping me figure out what was wrong.

One other approach is just to drop the DV project into the main project as a nested project. This way you don’t have to render anything and the nested project will behave just like any other piece of media.
