fps? 16mm film? interlace?
Okay so this is my problem. I shot my first short film on 16mm. So before telecining my footage should play at 24 fps. Then i had my film telecined in a lab and i got it back in uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 at 29.97 fps. this is were my confusion began.
I open my footage in quicktime and notice interlace fields. Kinda made me upset because i paid 200 for telecining. but then when i opened it up in final cut there was no interlace so sweet on with the editing.
I finish cuting together my 1 1/2 minute film in final cut and then i export a certain clip to after effects for a special effect.
THIS IS MY PROBLEM! In after effects i get the interlace fields that i saw originally in quicktime. which makes it difficult to do the effect i want. What am i doing wrong? Am i not exporting right from final cut? Do i need to convert the footage somehow? I am very lost and i seem to have run into a dead end. I dont intend on going back to film. My footage will go straight to DVD and maybe even Blu-ray in the future. Please help!!!

this is the project i am working on. it is complete except the demon transformation at the end is all F*$%^ up cause i have no clue what the fps should be. when i play the footage back frame by frame it goes 3 frames in motion then it pauses for 2 then back to 3 frames in motion. like i said im lost. any help would be nice.

What you need to do is use the search engine and look-up words like “de-interlacing” “de-interlace” (also try “deinterlace” or “deinterlacing”) and “pulldown” (for 3:2 pulldown).
Look these up in your manuals also. You will also find them in your online help files.
Read those subjects and you will understand what is up.
BTW: How can a man live for the better part of what seems a minute or so onscreen with his heart ripped out and being eaten in front of him by a succubus? Especially while telling her “I love you.” (The time relativity seems a bit beyond the pale, and I think that the word and meaning of “love” has been stretched to new limits here.) Just my reaction — but then I am not a 17 year old kid with a bad case of hormones who would sell his soul for a chance to get into her panties — so I guess the story wasn’t written for me.

When film is telecine’d, 3:2 pulldown is added. Interlacing is normal: part of making 24 into 30 (29.97). Google “pulldown” and “after effects”.
Your job is to remove pulldown if you want to work in 24 (23.976). Check the Help.If you work in AE, use 23.976, not 23.98. Apple calls 23.976 23.98, but AE is more precise.

okay so interlace is no longer a problem. I figured out in ae how to remove advanced pulldown. but a new problem occurs. When i export back into fcp my clip is two frames short and it is now in 23.976 fps not 29.97 fps. basically what i need to know is what is the proper way to import clips into ae from fcp. And then what is the proper way to export from ae so that i can stick the clip back into fcp. every which way i try i end up with slight variations of the original clip.
My time line in fcp is 29.97 uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2
I have done alot of google searching but nothing answers my question or problem. Do they have classes on the stuff. or maybe books. I checked out barns and noble but nothing looked like it would help.
