  • Boris graffiti – can we do a X-files typewriter effect?

In episodes of the X-files, when the scene opens we see some text wipe across the screen in the bottom left corner, sort of like a smooth typewriter.

Can we do this effect with Boris Graffiti?

    Hi,

You can achieve that effect in Graffiti via the Type-On text feature. There are a free tutorials available that show you how to do this here:

    https://borisfx.com/tutorials/#null

One of the tutorials that would be most useful to you is titled “Extreme Overshoot”. This provides a very good overview of the capabilities of Graffiti’s Type-On text tool.

If you want to skip all of that, just follow these steps:

    • create some text using the Graffiti text generator
    • twirl down the text track and click to select the Face track in the timeline
    • in the Controls Window, select the Type On tab
    • animate the Text Type On parameter from 0 to100 for the duration that you want the title animation to have

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Glad that helped. The Extreme Overshoot tutorial is actually on the RED page – it’s relevant because Graffiti is in fact the titling engine in RED. Here’s a link:

    Cheers,

    Peter.
