Somebody wanted to know how to make some smoke come out from a mechine and then fill the entire frame .I feel that smoke is often required by some footages, but a little difficult to make.So I tried an experiment about making such effect. Now I am willing to share my experience with guys here.

My idea is that making some footages of smoke in a software named ParticleIllusion and fusing them in AE.

I uploaded the movie and project files to a free web space.

    Here is the movie file:https://www.seaair.com.cn/smoke.mov
Here is AE project file and the ParticleIllusion project files:https://www.seaair.com.cn/smoke.rar

If you had opened the AEP file ,you would be reported that there are three files missing.Don’t warry, just open the three ParticleIllusion project files and render them into three PNG sequences(remember to selece the Save Alpha option). After that, replace the footage in AE and you can see the result now.

If anyone have any other questions about it,I can give more details about the process.Even can I make a step-by-step tutorial if necessuary.

Yeah, PI is the same thing in Combustion. We needed to do a dust trail effect in a spot once and using Combustions’s particle sprites (PI) was the best looking by far. Of course if you use Particular, you can always just assign little smoke puff layers to the particles and get the same effect.
