I just bought a 17″ macbook pro and realized there isn’t a num pad on the keyboard anymore (via fn or num lock). Ugh!!! So much for After Effects. Anyway. Since I didn’t want to have to carry a keyboard or num pad with my “portable” or hand code, after some lazy googling I found the below java script on Adobe. The script simply lets you make your own shortcuts without having to edit the preferences directly. Awesome.
I saw another post with the same problem. So I thought I’d pass it along.

    Thanks Jeff Almaso!

Wow. Thanks for the tip, Jeremy and Jeff.

Hi there. This had been bugging me for over a year since I bought my MB pro17 but no one seemed to know what the answer could be; In fact it is very simple. all you need to do is go into system settings international and tick box french and french numerical. Low and behold it works with the maj lock button working as a num lock; 1234567890 simple as that. So even if i am like over a year and a half too late, i can now do numbers without streching my fingers.

Could you explain what you mean by the maj lock button? I would love a solution to this problem.

    Thanks so much!

This has done the job for me:

It’s a preference pane – on Snow Leopard, immediately after installing & restarting I got my numpad action back.
