  How do I create those cool film burn transitions that look real???

  I have Synthetic Aperture for my basic film grain look, but how do I create those cool film burn transitions and carriage mess-ups???
  I assume that I should use a pre-made Quicktime of a film burn and “screen” out the black. Is this the right idea or do you know of any cheap plug-ins that can accomplish this? Any good tutorials??? Any good places to find these QT’s???

  You can buy stock footage of that (Artbeats is one source) and/or search the COW for “film burn”.

  Most of them aren’t real at all, they don’t even look real if you’ve ever shot film. but which ones? Tail-outs? Open the camera? Busted sprockets and actual film burning in the projection gate?

  What is a “carriage mess-up”?

  ArtBeats has a great and not too expensive stock reel of superb film effects. Also, google will yield you several freebies (probably low rez but you might be able to deconstruct them) but weeding through the garbage and spam is tedious.
  We see the request often here, have you searched the local files, forums, and tutorials?

  thanks for posting those, just downloaded and used a couple for an emergency edit – yes the client wanted to see what that burnt film thing would look like! ever popular …

  Are these totally clear to use rights wise? wouldn’t want to tread on anyones toes.

  I too am glad to now have those in my collection. A little late for my original request, so I used Twitch as the other poster earlier suggested. It was fun and cool to use. Gave a similar effect. More artsy though, than “real”, as the ones just posted. Both are awesome. Thanks!!!

  All you do is add them to you video track 2 or layer above and use “screen” as your compositing or blending mode.
