Copyrighting for Google Images
Posted by Rebecca Pepe on September 15, 2011 at 3:09 pmI am taking a class for producing corporate videos. Our client wants to make a video about some construction that will be happening over the next few years. We are looking into using images from Google and possible some Google Earth shots in the video itself for before and after footage.
Does anyone know how to go about getting approval for using these images?
Thanks!

September 16, 2011 at 3:57 pmYou are asking for trouble using images on google. These are mostly personal or copyrighted images.
There are many sites such as iStock Photo, where you can pay for the photos and get permission to use them. Some are as little as one dollar.

September 16, 2011 at 4:28 pmNo, Brent; Google owns Google Earth, and you can pay one of several levels of access to be able to use their aerial shots, for example, without the watermarked Google logos over them. It is a pretty simple process from what I recall, and there is , or at least used to be, a simple link in the app to get this kind of thing taken care of. Which is why I made the flippant initial comment.
You’re thinking of the things that pop up in a standard Google image search, where you’d be correct that the rights to those images all vary, but Google Earth is a more specific thing.

September 17, 2011 at 8:29 pmYou might want to check out Pond5.com. They have a huge collection of stock stills, video, music, etc., and their prices are very good. With a quick search I found a nice shot (search found Satellite Aerial) moving about the earth – satellite POV. Even if you don’t find anything specific, it’s a great idea generator.
