  • Broadcasting an audio signal on the go with a smartphone

    Hi everyone !

I’m planning an event which will be broadcasted live as a video. I’m thinking about using something like the Rode Smartlav+ that plugs in to a smartphone for the speakers. I found a ton of audio recorder apps for smartphones, but none that seem to be able to send this signal in real time to another device. Yet, I need to get it to a computer nearby (I’m thinking Bluetooth or Wifi) to stream.

Any ideas ? Has anyone already done something like that ?

    Thanks a lot !

Why not arrange for a regular wireless mic or two?

It’s a small event and there is no budget for that. I’m sure there is a solution with the SmartLav+, though.

Alix, the delay in such a system seems short on paper, but acoustically, it’s going to be horrible for the live audience, and also give you fits in the video switching and editing due to lip-synch delay, not to mention feedback issues.

Wireless mics are cheap at pawn shops and on Ebay.

Okay, thanks for the answer, Mark. I didn’t think the delay would be that important. Do you have any cheap wireless mics recommendation ? That’d be great !

Sweetwater Sound, Musician’s Friend, B&H Photo-video, Markertek, all have products with info. Even RAdio Shack has a simple wireless system with handheld and lav options. Research then shop around.

    Or even rental.

Really, if the budget is too small for a wireless mic rental, is the event worth taking on?
