  How to go From Avid to After Effects and Back?

  I am having problems going from Avid to AE and back.

  I have green screen footage shot 16:9 in avid. I need to export that to AE to key over a jumback and then come back to Avid to put in my movie.

  No matter what I don’t know the right specs out of avid as well as how to work in AE.

  It always seems to make my footage look soft. or compressed somehow.

  Can someone give me the best workflow?

  Export a Quicktime Reference (if your Avid and AE on the same system) or Quicktime Same as source (if your AE is on a different system).
  Import this into AE. Double-check to make sure that AE intrepreted the footage properly. (DV/D1 NTSC should be lower field first, HD is upper field).
  Do your keying and other effects.
  Render out using either a lossless codec like QT Animation, being sure to choose to generate fields (matching your source field order). Alternatively, you can create you QT using Avid’s codecs (DNxHD, etc..)
  Import these into Avid, making sure to set you import settings to match field order, etc…
