  Final cut novice! Problems capturing Mini DV footage on Final Cut Express

  Hi

  This is actually a Final Cut Express query – but hope someone can help.

  I’ve been trying to capture footage from my JVC mini-dv cam onto Final Cut Express. It’s all capturing fine but there are problems with the video and audio speed on playback.

  I’m using the Easy Set Up (using Firewire) but whichever DV-PAL setting I use the video footage is speeding up on playback in the viewer. Also, as the footage was filmed on 12 bit the audio requires the 32khz setting – otherwise I get a warning that the source and capture audio are set at different rates. BUT, even if I use 32khz, both the audio and visual are speeding up on playback.

  What am I missing? Is it problem with the set up/capture – or is it something I’ve done on the playback settings (I have tried various different options but no luck).

  If it is something I can’t fix on FCE is there a work around – maybe using Quicktime?

  At the moment, the footage is only for personal use – but I will need to get this sorted for future projects as well.

  Be aware that DVCAM and DV play and record at different speeds.
