    Hello!

So I made an animated video in After Effects and am having issues bringing it into and working with it in FCP.

The AE settings I used to create and render my animation are:
    HDV 1080 / DVC PRO HD 720
    When I rendered out of AE, I used a HDV 720p 30

I brought the clip into Final Cut so I can mix in audio & narration. What frame size should I be using in FCP? Right now the sequence settings I’m using are 720 x 480 Custom which is what I used in AE and my compressor is HDV 720 p30. Yet it looks all stretched out after I render in FCP 🙁

Please and thank you for your help on this!!

[Elayne Lake] “HDV 1080 / DVC PRO HD 720”

How on earth can your settings be both 1080 and 720? That makes zero sense.

[Elayne Lake] “When I rendered out of AE, I used a HDV 720p 30”

HDV is the WORSE choice you can make. How about ProRes? much better. Better quality, no GOP, full raster.

[Elayne Lake] “What frame size should I be using in FCP? “

The exact same frame size you exported out of AE as. And frame rate…and codec.

[Elayne Lake] “Right now the sequence settings I’m using are 720 x 480 Custom which is what I used in AE and my compressor is HDV 720 p30.”

Hmmmm…no…that’s wrong. When something is referred to as 720p…it is 1280×720…the LAST number. 1080 is 1920×1080. You are using a 480 setting…not what your footage is. You need it to be 1280×720…but first you need to render out of AE as ProREs. Actually, what version of FCP are you running? Want to make sure ProREs is an option.

    Hey Shane

Thanks so much for your answers & help! I’m out of town and away from my workstation so I can’t double check any of the settings / questions you asked me but I will when I’m back.

    I appreciate all your help!

I hope to finally wrap my head around the whole premise behind sequence settings!
