• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  importing question

  Hello,

  I am using FCP 6.
  I need to import and edit various files from various sources in order to make a demo.
  They are originally PAL avis and vobs.
  I am now located in the US and believe the end product must be in NTSC correct?
  I will be using this mostly for webpage and DVD viewing.

  What is the best way to do this (I need to preserve the quality as some of it is very-very low).

  Well first off:

  If all your footage is PAL, you might better leave it that way for now.

  You need to convert all footage to a format FCP likes.

  PAL DV50 would be a good place to start. Mpeg streamclip is free, get it.

  Once edited. Output “Current Settings”

  Compress for web.

  Convert PAL clip to NTSC clip while compressing for DVD.

  Do you think the PAL to NTSC transfer (for DVD) will reduce the quality significantly?

  That depends a whole lot on how the conversion is done.

  Use a Teranex for best results.
  Send a Master off to a place that does foreign conversions.
  Use compressor to convert.
