I’m capturing video from digital 8 to my imac in final cut express. There is a tracking line at the bottom of capture and when I export. On the viewer of camera, there is no tracking line. Why is this there and how do I get rid of it? Thanks.

it’s in the part of the video that never gets seen on a TV set/DVD – it’s called blanking. It has to do with the way the signal is encoded.

If you add a small mask or crop you can remove the dead lines.

Thanks for quick reply. I typically export to a .mov without self-containing the file for time purposes. Is there a way to mask or crop without having to go through the render process? Thanks much.

Not that I know of in FCE; in FCP, maybe.
