  • AE CS3 not importing .mov files

I have a project I’ve been working on in AE CS3 and it’s been working fine, aside from the week without rendering because of the Quicktime Update.

I just updated Quicktime last Friday and now I can’t import any .mov files into CS3. All of my .mov files currently residing in my project are acting like they aren’t connecting with the videos, which haven’t been moved since they were imported. I tried to reconnect them but they are all grayed out. I changed the “Enable” field from “All Footage Files” to “All Files”. It allows me to select them but won’t import it into the project. It gives me the following error: “After Effects Warning: Unable to import file ‘[filename.mov]’ as project.”

Is it some issue with the new Quicktime update? is anyone else experiencing this particular problem?

    thanks everyone.

    Dave,
thanks for the response. No, I thought so too. So I even used the old fashioned way of importing… FILE> Import> file… same error message. I’m clueless.

I tried it in my AE 7 and it imports fine. But my other project is set up in CS3 which, unfortunately, you can’t import CS3 projects into AE7.

    Any other thoughts?

Can you use AE 7 or QT to convert the file to maybe a TGA sequence, then import that?

Guess I could five it a shot. It’s really annoying though, it’ll take double the time. Bosses don’t like double the time, that’s why we buy programs like this.

That’s a good idea, thanks, Mr. Roberts.

Well, recompressing or re-rendering something that’s already rendered goes pretty quickly. 🙂

I am ready to import materials and as soon as I hit import AE closes in a split second.
Is there something running in the background that can be shut down or put on minimal?
I really need help with this. Thank you… Lynn

Have you tried to drag the files in manually? Open the file location and drag and drop it into your project. Also, as rediculous as it sounds, a restart can be a simple fix! Let us k ow if we can help further.

Thank You Spence…I have tried restart… I would like to know why this is happening. I seem to remember something about clicking off or selecting minimal on something running in background. Only thing is that I have searched my system and I can’t seem to recall what needs to be adjusted.

Did you get this fixed – I just moved to a new HP 8600 and have the same problem – probably another QT nasty…

Whoops – discovered my own problem – didn’t like an extended network link. copied everything to the new hard drive and it worked fine….
