• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  Storing media file and project file on ext hdd.

  Hi all,
  May I know how to store all my media file and project file in external firewire 800 drive?
  I got myself a 500GB of FW800 firewire hdd.

  I plan to create 2 folder in the HDD itself:
  1. Media Files
  2. FCP Projects

  All my HD pro res footage and music will be stored in Media Files folder e.g.
  \Media Files\20110102 John and Clara Wedding\

  where as under FCP project:
  \FCP Projects\20110102 John and Clara Wedding Project\

  I need some input to get it organize.
  The reason I store fcp project and media is that I always on the move and editing on different Mac

  Hi Chee,
  I don’t know if you want to archive there all your media, or just the media associated with these projects.
  If is this last option, you need to use Media Manager. This will create a folder with the project and another folder with the media used.
  About “Getting Organized on FC”, we have our king Shane Ross.
  Hi has a tutorial with that very name.
  Just click on Shane’s picture, or look on “Final Cut Tutorial” on top of this page.

  You can also try sub folders ie;

  Media:(2 folders)
  Audio:
  Music
  SFX

  Footage:(2 folders)
  Transcoded
  RAW (Cards/non-tape media backed up)

  Graphics:(3 Folders)
  Stills
  Photoshop files
  After Effects FIles/media

  FCP files(also back these up on a separate source like a thumb drive)

  a great app thats freeware or donationware is called “PostHaste” its a pretty elaborate tool for media management does all the work for you.

  Just update the FCP file, when you open it. This was made during FCP 6 era.
