no realtime playback of stills in the timeline
Very basic question:
I am trying to playback a .jpg images in the timeline but I get the red bar and they must be rendered.
I have used FCP in the past, and know that I can get RT playback with something as simple as a few .jpg stills. The .jpg’s are not extremely large either,I need to work at 864 x 486, progressive. Is that the problem? (Do I need to work at a certain frame size)
On the RT tab there are no settings. Anything I attempt, I get the red bar.I am on Snow Leopard, Quad Core Intel with a fast RAID and 8GB RAM (system is not the issue)
any help would be appreciated, I need to get a rough cut out ASAP!!

Stick with an actual preset and standard video size. Look for a widescreen preset and choose that. Preferably prores or 8bit
Also avoid JPEG. EVIL. convert with image processor in Ps. See cow podcast library.

yup, it seems that FCP wants a standard frame size, even if it is LARGER than what I am needing.

Make sure you are working with an Anamorphic timeline, that is what 864 x 486 square would convert to.

You can also, make a slideshow in iphoto and export to a QT conversion

Use Preview(Generic Image preview app)
open all images> select all images in the sidebar, then choose under Tools menu>adjust size by pixels
type in your frame size. (leave at 72 DPI)Save all (only if you back up the originals, this will change the original file sizes)
Save as: is one by one.
