Hi New to Final Cut. I am trying to insert footage an well as stills into the time line. I am having two problems. First, when I insert the footage it is being placed over the footage I shot, so its copying over the camera footage I shot in the time line.

Also, when I insert the image/video it appears that the footage is not big enough, because I can still see the footage I shot behind it. How do I fix this.

    Thanks,
    Dylan

Your images are too low in resolution. Are you working in HD? They need to be the same size as your footage to fill in the entire area in your canvas.

Thanks for the reply! How do I check to see what size my footage is, and also to see if my image size matches up? Sorry I am really new to this, and am trying to learn by just jumping into it.

And a side note, does anyone know of a good book to learn about the “basic”.

    Thanks,
    Dylan

Read the manuel… Version 6 of FCP came with tutorials (don’t know if FCP 7 does though).

To check settings right-click or control-click your footage and select clip settings. There you shall see. Post them here so we can tell you if you need to change anything.

    Also, post your sequence settings.

To re-size your stills you need something like Photoshop.
