  • Import / Export / Rendering question

I am sure this question has been answered before but i can not find a definitive answer.

I have old family DVD’s I need to edit. I exported them using HandBrake, MP4; about a year or two ago. Now i would like to edit the videos. But when I import the MP4 videos into FCE, I am constantly rendering as i change and edit the movie

What quicktime pro setting is required to export a video into FCE and not have to render the video?

On a side note. When i use the export to MOV, using a variety of codecs i am getting a white screen in the quicktime with audio.

    Please assist me.

Do not use Handbrake. Use MPEG Streamclip.

To be more specific. MP4 files are h264 in codec. And h264 is NOT edit friendly. You need to covert to a proper editing codec BEFORE editing.

Keep in mind that because you are using FCE it is limited to DV and AIC.

I recently had to copy about 100 video clips for a History Course I’m creating for Online students. Just like you I used handbrake. As soon as handbrake was done with my clip, however I immediately open it with MPEG Streamclip, then click file–> convert to QuickTime.
It might take a bit of time to convert, but the resulting file is instantly transferable to FCP.

    Works well with Handbrake.

    Goodluck!

I was trying to save myself time, since I spent so much time, first converting VHS to DVD, then DVD to MP4 … now i have to do MP4 to DV.

Although I find still have to render the quicktime format with FCE, Hanse, my original question. So I am exporting the videos as AVI with streamclip and it working find.

    Thank you… everyone
