  • What’s the fastest way to make these edits? (PICTURES)

Posted by Benjamin Reichman on October 7, 2010 at 7:06 pm

I’m always trying to learn more keyboard shortcuts and speed up my work, so here are two recent examples of edits I wanted to make. In each case, I used the mouse, but I wondered if there were shortcuts I don’t know or ways of approaching these edits that I hadn’t considered. So, how would you handle these? I know they’re very small and easy to do with the mouse, but I’d still like to know if there are faster ways.

    1)

In this example, I want to move the highlighted clip so that it ends at the playhead, then extend the head of the clip to fill the gap that would be left.

    2)

In this example, I simply want to create a j-cut, extending the audio tracks of TK4 up to the through-edit in the previous clip’s audio tracks.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. No shortcut.

    2. Option-click the audio edit at the head of TK4. Put the playhead at the through edit. Up arrow once. Press E.

    All the best,

    Tom

#2. Press r (roll). N (snapping on, skip if already on). Drag head till it snaps in place.
