HDV print to video-no image
I’m trying to print to video in FC7 pro, to my Sony HDV deck. I’ve done this with FC6 but it was hit and miss. I first tried to record my prores (HDV) project and everything runs except the screen on the deck is black during transfer, so nothing is being recorded.
I tried also by exporting the timeline to compressor and down converted back to HDV and put that on a new timeline. I’ve tried the deck with various input settings, such as HDV, Auto, and it still comes out black. Everything in FC7 seems in order during this process, bars, countdown, then the video plays on the monitor, just not the deck. FC even starts the deck. I’ve also verified the sequence settings are HDV.

I have this problem in FCP 6 the only way to get it working is to restart FCP, and try it again, try it again and try it again, then for no reason it would work! Also nesting my sequence has been known to help.

I’ve tried this multiple times with a nested sequence restarting FC and rebooting with no success. I’ve also tried it with my Sony HDV zu1 camera. I think the problem is in the routing. When I print to video I get a message about it not being routed right. It seems to me the video should be routed to an HDV output instead of the Desktop preview. When I go there to reset the HDV outputs are all greyed out.
How do I get this to be selectable?

You cannot print a pro res timeline to a HDV deck, the deck will only accept a HDV signal.

Not the best way of going about it. First make sure the new time line has the proper HDV settings, then just simply copy and past the your old time line to the new one and render.
Bust most important keep in mind that when you convert back to HDV from pro res you will loose some quality in your video. Most editors would agree that HDV may be a ok acquisition format but definitely not a good editing format and a even worse mastering and archival format.
I myself shoot HDV but wont edit in it, I capture directly to pro res and then, master and archive onto hard drives that or course are backed up.

I now capture all my hdv directly to pro res. I will try nesting the pro res timeline into an hdv timeline.
I’m not really mastering the project but the plan is to run a projector from the HDV component for a live show next week. This will look a lot better I think than a DVD.
The real problem here is the video doesn’t make it to the deck from FC. It is conforming it now.

I tried the nested sequence and still no image on the deck.
The external video output for HDV is still greyed out.
