I feel like an idiot for not knowing whats going on, but I’m hoping someone can help me (I’ve spent all afternoon searching posts for some answers and couldnt get any…)

My sequence setting for my project in fcp are set as:
    Frame size: 720×486 CCIR 601 NTSC (40:27)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC- CCIR 601/ DV(720:480)
    Field: Lower
and my compressor is set to uncompressed 8-bit

I’m trying to export as an uncompressed Quicktime and keep it as the 720×486 and everytime I do it looks stretched. I thought maybe if I changed my frame size to 720×480 it wouldnt stretch, but still stretched that way too.

When I uncheck the ‘correct for pixel aspect ratio’ in the canvas it looks just like the stretched video I have after exporting…is my problem coming from something relating to that? Also, I dont have a monitor hooked up to my computer, could my problem be that I’m looking at it on my computer and not on a tv?

    Help, please!

sounds like you have the anamorphic box checked. If you are working with 4:3 footage that should not be on. that is the first thing I would look at.

I’m still having the problem…I read somewhere that 720×486 will view as 640×480…is that my problem? That it views as 640×480 in fcp but when i export and play it in quicktime its playing it as 720×486(which is what i want) and thats why it looks stretched cuz in fcp i’m only seeing it as 640×486?

Can someone help me? Aspect ratios make my head hurt and I can’t figure this out…

I got it to work if I exported using Quicktime conversion and instead of using the custom option and typing in 720×486 myself, i used their preset of 720×486 4:3 and it didnt stretch it…I’m coming to the conclusion that its b/c 720×486 isnt really 4:3. but if someone who understands this all could explain it to me so it makes sense, please do!

And if they could tell me how I can export it in Compressor so I dont have to use quicktime conversion everytime…thanks!
