July 22, 2010 at 12:52 pmThe mac pro has the latest, best types of technology. It hasnt been updated for a while and a tip from a guy who knows a guy I know: dont buy it yet.
In terms if iMac vs Mac Pro, I edit using an imac i5 with 8GB ram and the latest version of all software with loads of plugins. What’s more I also do it to an external firewire 800 (7200rpm) hard drive, and it’s absolutely speedy for what i do, which is a lot. BUT, i only bought that because of my budget, which was less that I needed for a mac pro. also imac (believe it or not) offer more portability, I often need to take mine to other offices, and whilst it’s not a lap top, it would be much easier than a mac pro.
HOWEVER, mac pros have more than one bay for internal SATA hard drives, which is what you should use of editing (even firewire 800 7200RPMs can lag every now and again). What’s more, I dont have any expansion things like a Kona or anything, which I believe you often need an express card slot for, which the imac doesnt have. Mac pros are simply easier to expand, and more powerful, but if you’re on a budget and not having the extras wont kill you, then an iMac would suite you OK.😀

#1 thing is with detail info on what workflow you plan to use, what level of editing you need any advice will be more of what others need or use.

July 23, 2010 at 10:07 pmwait for the new MacPros to come out. Very possible they will be using the I7 980 extreme “Gulftown” chip at 3.3Ghz. Load up the RAM DDR3, I like the solid state system drive personally, get a good graphic card, and RAID two or more fast drives.

July 24, 2010 at 1:52 amThat sounds pretty good, but rumour has it solid state is overpriced and actually has a more finite longevity because it can only take so many read/writes before it stops working:s anyone know more whilst we’re on the topic?

July 24, 2010 at 6:05 amDon’t rush out and buy anything. All the rumours sites are saying new Mac Pros are imminent, with new iMacs to come soon after.

July 25, 2010 at 11:28 pmsometimes when I’m looking for a new system I start with a price and after digging find out I can get a more capable system for a little bit more – and buy it. So I provide it.
