• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  Green!!!

  I did some video work in 2003-2005 with a little Canon GL1 and Final Cut Express and had some pretty good results with it, actually had some Broadcaster air our material. I had completly stopped until 1 month ago and I am now picking up some interesting contracts but I am completly lost with the new HD part of things and the new apps out there.

  I guess my questions are minimum computer requirements for editing, I need a laptop as editing is sometimes done on the road (basic editing) but I wonder if I could do all my editing by buying a Mac Book Pro or something. Could I get away with small editing on a regular IBook?

  Alot of the stuff I will be doing will be web base so is HD overkill? But sometimes it will be used for both TV and Web. I guess I am back to the ground floor on understanding the basics of HD.;

  You can, but the smaller and the slower lap-top you buy, the sooner you will regret haven’t gone for the MBP 17″. If you can afford it, don’t hesitate to buy that one.

  Downscaling pictures have also some caveats, but properly managed, HD footage gives you more options than SD. For Web videos and SD, shooting 720 would be a good solution.

  Hi Rene,

  I am totally on Rafael’s Comment on this one!!!
  I own a MBP 17inch and it works like a charm. Even edited RED footage on it.
  With a good 4GB RAM you are good to go.
  Anything else might work, but the faster you are getting in editing, the more frustrating it is, if your system cannot keep up with your finger 😉
  Invest a bit more now, it will pay off later.
  Beside that, a HD Screen is a nice extra when you work with HD material. You can really watch what you got.
