  • Creating a ling between a layer in a comp and a layer in a precomp

Posted by Emmanuel Gobert on February 5, 2008 at 6:17 pm

    Hi everyone.
In a projet, I have a composition, nammed COMP
in this composition, there is another composition, nammed PRECOMP, and a layer, nammed CLIP
in PRECOMP, there is a layer nammed DISK and many other layers

I want to create a parent-child link between CLIP and DISK.
Is it possible, and how ?

    Thanks !

You can’t create a parent/child link if both layers are not directly accessible in the comp. If you don’t see the layer in the parent drop down, you can’t do it.

You could use Expressions, possibly. Try separating the timeline tabs for the two comps, and drag the pickwhip from one property for one layer to the relevant property in the other layer … if that will do what you want. It might not.

    Anybody else?

    Thanks for answering.
    It could works using expressions,
but the problem is : the PRECOMP is bigger than COMP, and i use keyframe to animate PRECOMP… so then, the layer CLIP doesn’t perfectly follow the layer DISK anymore…

In fact it works if I use expressions, and if I link CLIP to PRECOMP… It is not very handly I think, because I loose some control on CLIP (can’t change the scale etc…)
