    Hi Cow Community,

I just purchased a Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB internal SATA drive for my Mac Pro – was curious to know if anyone has any experience working with this drive, and if so, how it was worked out for you? Can it handle HD video projects fairly well?

The WD ‘Green’ SATA drive was about $100 bucks less expensive, but my gut was telling me to go with performance over price with this one…lord knows I don’t want to get any dropped frames or output problems at the 11th hour because I skimped on price…

    Thanks!

The WD blacks are certainly better for video than the green drives. The MTBF rate for the 1TB blacks is pretty good, I don’t know if the 2TB drives have been out long enough to tell yet.
The Hitachi 1TB drives are rated as good, if not better for noise, heat and failure. I have a couple of each WD black and Hitachi, and they have both worked well. Based on that, I guess the 2TB drives would probably be a safe bet. For future purchase I might lean slightly towards Hitachi, with WD being a second choice based on personal experience.
