FCP re-reads movie data each time
Hi all.
I’m still new to FCP (2 months), but am gaining speed.
I have a project that needs to have two separate authors working on it. OS is 10.6.3, FCP is 7.0.2.
The goal is to have two machines, two authors (but only one author working at a time). When one author’s done, he mails the FCP project file to the other other. We know that when the new project file’s opened on the other machine source media needs to be reconnected (and then a re-render). We aren’t adding any new media.
I’ve cloned all the folders from the original machine to the second machine; it now has the same folder tree and source content as the original machine along with the FCP project file.
Launching the FCP project works on the 2nd machine; just have to reconnect the media (expected).
What’s not expected; each time this project file is launched on the 2nd machine, it wants to read each of the media files (there are some 75 movie clips); this takes around 20 minutes. It’s not looking for the files, but reading them. This only happens on the 2nd machine. Launching FCP with a new project file doesn’t do this (also expected as it’s not trying to read the media).
Specifically:
Actual message is:
“Searching for movie data in file foo.mov”This happens while the project is loading, and has the progress bar:
Preparing video for display (dialog box title is “Reading project”)If I copy the FCP file from the 2nd machine back to the first, launch (and reconnect as expected), FCP launches w/o problem. It doesn’t try to read the media.
There are a number of other things I’ve tried, but to no avail, including full render, etc.
Has anyone seen this behavior before?
FCP is configured the same on both boxes: base config is 422Prores HQ, I believe other settings (as best I can tell from side-by-side comparison) are the same as well.
Quite mystified and appreciative of any help offered.
Many thanks for your help!
